Digitalization is a major driver of growth in Africa. By 2025 it’s expected that more than 50 percent of the population will have access to the Internet, which represents over 600 million people and a forecasted +700 million smartphone users. As traditional FM radio is shifting into digital media, including podcasts, there is a window of opportunity to capitalize on this trend and Afripods has the vision to become the leading Pan-African podcasting platform spreading great stories, entertainment and joy around Africa.
In order to achieve this, we set out on a journey together with the Afripods Team with the aim to create and provide the best technical solutions, offering a one-stop-shop for podcast creators, listeners, and advertisers in order to maximize business opportunities and user experiences. In parallel to this we also helped Afripods to raise seed money in order to take the first important steps to expand the presence in the market.
Together we have developed a mobile first service with a clear Android focus, as most mobile markets in Africa is +90 percent Android driven. One special feature to point out, is how we designed the Android client to optimize performance in relation to memory use and off-line mode, as data and memory still are expensive and scarce resources for many users in the target markets.
